Condomerie Foundation was founded in 2009. The then founders Van der Maas, Schouten, Ten Berge, Lenting and Van Boven formulated the following objectives:
The objectives of the foundation are
a. to contribute to the response to sexually transmitted infections (hereafter called: “STIs”), including Human Immunodeficiency Virus (hereafter called: “HIV”), Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (hereafter called: “AIDS”) and hepatitis, at both a national and international level, with activities such as promoting safe sex and helping others to promote and provide information about safe sex;
b. to develop and/or support initiatives with the objective of promoting good sexual health for all;
c. to encourage and initiate research and development in the field of condoms, female condoms and lubricants, as well as products which help distribute these items, such as condom dispensers. In doing this, the Circular Economy principle is adhered to as much as possible;
d. to develop and/or support initiatives that contribute to the protection of reproductive rights worldwide, particularly when they concern young adults and women;
e. to develop and/or support initiatives that aim to provide Safe Sex education for homosexuals, bisexuals and transgenders as well as promoting their emancipation and integration;
f. to teach or provide information about Life Skills and Safe Sex for different levels of education;
g. to encourage, support and initiate research, campaigns and other activities considered to be in line with the objectives of the foundation in any way, which could also be in the world of art, sport, design, comedy, theatre, film, music or web design, and anything which is linked to or promotes these activities.
The foundation aims to achieve these objectives by:
a. providing information and education on Safe Sex and HIV/AIDS prevention;
b. commercial and fundraising activities in the broadest sense.
Projects
Sape Moderne took place annually in Abidjan, Ivory Coast: AIDS information through an annual football tournament, a theater play and a fashion show in Abidjan (Ivory Coast). The Condomerie Foundation has supported this initiative since its inception in 2009. Information is provided about safe sex and condom use and HIV testing and counseling are offered on site. In 2013, 32 teams participated in the tournament, 189 HIV tests were administered and 2,500 condoms were distributed.
Dissertations
The Condomerie Foundation is happy to contribute to the development of relevant theses in the field of sexual health, safe sex, HIV and other STI.
ECO auditing
The founder of Condomerie Foundation, Theodoor van Boven, is a member of ISO TC 157. This is an international organization that aims to develop and publish international quality standards.Like the ISO 4074 standard for latex condoms. "Technical Committee 157" deals with condoms, female condoms, IUDs, diaphragms, fallopian rings and lubricant. Thanks to the Netherlands, there is a "Task Group EcoProduction" within this committee. This Task Group aims to make the production and packaging of condoms more environmentally friendly while maintaining quality. Part of this is the development of an ECO standard for condoms. To see how this can be done without generating additional work and costs, an "Eco Auditing" pilot has been carried out. (The factory is visited and assessed on some important aspects.) This test audit of a large condom factory in Malaysia is largely sponsored by Condomerie Foundation. The other sponsors were Bizzy Diamond and the condom brand Einhorn.
