Contragel: Lactic acid-based spermicidal gel.

The term 'spermicidal lubricant' is not entirely accurate. Using Contragel Green lowers the pH level within the vagina. This drop in pH renders the sperm cells immobile; they are not killed, but rather made inactive. In this way, the gel effectively creates a mechanical barrier between the diaphragm and the cervix.

Always use this gel in combination with a diaphragm or cervical cap.

Unfortunately, Contragel is no longer available. A good alternative is Caya Gel.
